Apollo 11 technology
In an amazing feat of science and engineering, six Apollo missions and 12 astronauts landed on the Moon. Their experiments paved the way for future space exploration and taught us much about the history of the Moon, the Sun and the Earth itself. They also introduced new technologies now found everywhere from the lunar surface to factories and homes.
Saturn V rockets
To get to the Moon NASA created the most powerful rocket ever built: 36 stories high and generating 3.4 million kg of thrust.
Solid clues to the Moon’s history
The Apollo program bagged hundreds of samples of the Moon’s surface. What can they tell us about the Moon's history?
Lessons from later missions
Following Apollo 11 in 1969, NASA landed another five crewed craft on the Moon. In total, 12 Apollo astronauts explored the Moon’s surface.
